Patriots Cut Former Broncos Player Ahead of AFC Championship
The New England Patriots recently made significant roster changes as they prepare for the AFC Championship matchup against the Denver Broncos.
Patriots Roster Moves Ahead of AFC Championship
On Saturday, the Patriots announced several adjustments to their lineup. Defensive lineman Leonard Taylor III and running back D’Ernest Johnson were promoted from the practice squad to the active roster.
However, two players were not activated from injured reserve. Defensive lineman Joshua Farmer is dealing with a hamstring issue, while running back Terrell Jennings is recovering from a concussion. Additionally, wide receiver Mack Hollins was activated from injured reserve.
Injuries and Cuts
Defensive lineman Eric Gregory has been placed on injured reserve. Notably, wide receiver Trent Sherfield Sr. was released from the practice squad just ahead of this crucial contest.
- Leonard Taylor III – Promoted to active roster
- D’Ernest Johnson – Promoted to active roster
- Joshua Farmer – Not activated (hamstring)
- Terrell Jennings – Not activated (concussion)
- Mack Hollins – Activated
- Eric Gregory – Placed on injured reserve
- Trent Sherfield Sr. – Released from practice squad
Sherfield’s release marks a quick departure after just 11 days with the team. He missed out on a chance to compete against his former team, the Broncos, in the championship match.
This season, he recorded three receptions, including one touchdown, for Denver before being waived on November 15.
Similar Situations for Other Players
Another player, Darrell Taylor, faced a similar fate. He spent nine days with the Patriots before being released just after their divisional round win against the Houston Texans.
While these moves may appear coincidental, they present an intriguing narrative as the team navigates roster decisions ahead of their pivotal game.
The Patriots are set to face the Broncos for a chance to reach Super Bowl LX on Sunday. The kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
