Wakeham Appoints Interim CEO as Pat Parfrey Exits NLHS
Dr. Pat Parfrey, a prominent figure in healthcare leadership, has exited his role as head of Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services (NLHS). This decision was announced by Premier Tony Wakeham as part of significant leadership changes within the health authority.
Leadership Transition at Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services
Following Parfrey’s departure, Ron Johnson has been appointed as interim CEO. Johnson previously served as the chief information officer and vice-president of digital health, information, and research at NLHS. His extensive experience positions him well to lead the organization during this transitional period.
Background on Dr. Pat Parfrey
Dr. Parfrey has dedicated over 40 years to the medical profession. His leadership was instrumental in the establishment of NLHS as the sole health authority in the province since April 2023. This transformation was largely due to his recommendation to merge four regional health authorities into a single entity.
In addition to his work with NLHS, Parfrey collaborated with Sister Elizabeth Davis to implement the province’s Health Accord. This 10-year strategy is aimed at overhauling the healthcare system in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Changes to the Board of Trustees
The reshuffling also extends to the NLHS board of trustees. Ross Wiseman, known for his public sector leadership and recent involvement in the Health Accord’s task force, has been appointed as a trustee and interim chairperson. He takes over from Bob Andrews, who will remain as a trustee.
