Community Foundation Expands Outreach Across the Valley County

The Ottawa Valley Community Foundation is enhancing its outreach across the Valley County. Although established in the summer of 2008, the foundation primarily operated within the Pembroke and Petawawa areas until recently. On January 12, Arnprior’s Board Member Alastair Baird presented information to the Town Council to raise awareness about the foundation’s role.

Purpose of the Ottawa Valley Community Foundation

The Ottawa Valley Community Foundation serves as a funding support vehicle rather than conducting its own fundraising activities. According to Baird, the foundation aims to meet community needs by facilitating donations and managing funds effectively. It collaborates with service clubs, organizations, and individual donors to achieve its mission.

Ways to Give Back

  • One-time donations
  • Annual endowments

Baird highlighted the foundation’s dedication to supporting various causes. A notable initiative is the Sport-for-All fund, created as a legacy of the Ontario Winter Games, which the community hosted in 2023.

Growing Assets and Outreach

The foundation’s financial resources and outreach capabilities are steadily increasing. Baird indicated that the foundation’s annual giving cycle starts with a winter meeting, ensuring the organization remains engaged with its community throughout the year.

By spreading awareness of its goals and opportunities for giving, the Ottawa Valley Community Foundation aims to foster a culture of generosity in Valley County.
