Edmonton Initiates Cul-de-Sac Snow Clearing Efforts
Residents living on the 3,000 cul-de-sacs in Edmonton will soon benefit from dedicated snow clearing efforts. The city announced that crews will begin this task starting Thursday, January 22, with 87% of residential road clearing already complete.
Timeline for Cul-de-Sac Snow Clearing in Edmonton
The cul-de-sac snow clearing process is projected to span up to six weeks. Crews will be working daily, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., including weekends. This operation consists of two main phases:
- Stacking Snow: Snow is piled up in designated areas.
- Removal: The stacked snow is then promptly removed and hauled away.
Residents should expect snow piling before removal takes place. While these snow piles may attract children, the city advises against climbing or playing on them to ensure safety.
Parking Restrictions During Snow Clearing
Cul-de-sac clearing is designated as a separate initiative from the ongoing citywide Phase 2 residential parking ban, which began recently. Most of the cul-de-sac work will occur after this parking ban ends, anticipated to be on Friday. To facilitate efficient snow clearing, the city will impose localized parking restrictions.
Large yellow “no parking” signs will be posted 24 hours before snow clearing begins. These signs will alert residents when their cul-de-sac will be serviced, allowing ample time to move vehicles if necessary.
Future Updates
The Edmonton city administration plans to provide further updates on the snow clearing process later this week. With these efforts, residents can expect a smoother transition as winter continues.
