Fan Tragically Dies in Stands During Laval Rocket Game

A tragic incident occurred during a minor league hockey game between the Laval Rocket and the Manitoba Moose on Saturday afternoon at Place Bell. Michel Pelletier, a dedicated fan, passed away in the stands, confirmed by his family.

Fan Dies at Laval Rocket Game

Pelletier, who recently celebrated his 75th birthday, had moved to Laval years ago to be closer to his beloved team. His wife, Micheline Fournier, recalled, “He loved hockey, and especially the Rocket.” He had been a loyal season ticket holder for seven years.

During the game, which was nearing its conclusion, goaltender Jacob Fowler noticed something was wrong in the stands. Just 1 minute and 12 seconds before the game was to end, Fowler requested that the match be stopped. Unfortunately, Pelletier had suffered a cardiac arrest.

Emergency Response

Witnesses initially believed Pelletier was simply asleep in his seat until they realized he was not breathing. Medical personnel attempted resuscitation both on-site and while transporting him to the hospital, but it was too late. His passing was confirmed by Valérie Guertin, a spokesperson for Urgences-santé.

Community Support

  • Sophie Pelletier, his daughter, shared a heartfelt message on Facebook, stating, “My father left peacefully while watching his favorite team.”
  • Yves Brenda Pelletier, his brother, thanked the medical team and the Laval Rocket for their efforts, emphasizing how much joy the team had brought him.

In response to this tragedy, the Laval Rocket released a statement offering condolences. “As a member of our community for seven seasons, he consistently supported us, and our entire family stands with his family during this difficult time,” the team expressed.
