Frigidaire Minifridges Recall Expands to Nearly 1 Million Units
Frigidaire is recalling nearly 1 million minifridges due to potential fire hazards. This expanded recall was initiated by Curtis International, which manufactures these appliances. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that an additional 330,000 units are being recalled, building on a previous recall of 634,000 units in July 2024.
Details of the Recall
The recall impacts the Curtis International 6-can minifridge, model EFMIS121. These models are red and feature the name “Frigidaire” prominently on the front. Sold exclusively at Target stores and on Target.com between January 2020 and October 2023, this model poses serious fire and burn hazards.
Fire Hazards and Incident Reports
- Internal electrical components may short-circuit.
- The short-circuiting can lead to surrounding plastic igniting.
- At least six reported incidents of the EFMIS121 minifridge catching fire have been documented.
Previously, a different recall related to various Frigidaire minifridge models noted 26 incidents. These included reports of smoking, sparking, and overheating appliances, totaling over $700,000 in property damage.
Recommendations for Affected Consumers
The CPSC advises users of the EFMIS121 minifridge to take immediate action:
- Stop using the appliance right away.
- Unplug the minifridge and cut the power cord.
