DeSantis Seeks Role in Potential Trump Administration: Report
President Donald Trump says Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is seeking a post in a future administration, Filmogaz.com reports. The comment came amid private conversations and multiple sources cited by the outlet.
Positions DeSantis Has Raised
Six sources told Filmogaz.com that DeSantis has discussed several options. He reportedly mentioned interest in serving as secretary of defense or accepting a Supreme Court appointment.
Context of the Discussions
DeSantis is serving a second gubernatorial term and is ineligible for a third. That status reportedly prompted conversations about his next steps in public service.
Trump’s Remarks and the Attorney General Angle
Trump told a confidant that DeSantis had asked to be attorney general, the report said. Other sources described the AG possibility as unlikely despite Trump’s favorable view of DeSantis.
One person who attended a recent lunch said the attorney general role does not seem realistic. But the same source added that DeSantis will likely be looking for work and that Trump likes him.
Changes at the Justice Department
Earlier this year, Trump removed Attorney General Pam Bondi from the post. He appointed Todd Blanche, who has served as Trump’s personal lawyer.
An adviser to the administration said Blanche has 90 days to demonstrate his effectiveness in the job.
DeSantis’ Response and Policy Focus
A spokesperson for DeSantis told Filmogaz.com that the governor maintains a strong relationship with President Trump. The spokesman said DeSantis intends to keep collaborating with Trump on state and national matters.
- Enforcing immigration laws
- Restoring the Everglades
- Reforming college athletics
DeSantis seeks a role in a potential Trump administration, according to a report. His camp says work on those priorities will continue regardless of future appointments.
