British Royals Honor Late Queen’s 100th Birthday
King Charles and Queen Camilla attended an exhibition at Buckingham Palace this week. The visit is part of events marking what would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday.
Palace fashion retrospective
The exhibition is titled “Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style.” It displays more than 300 items from the late monarch’s wardrobe.
Highlights include her wedding dress and the outfit from her cameo at the 2012 London Olympics. Curators describe it as the largest showing of her clothes to date.
Commemorative programme across the capital
The royal family’s schedule continues on Tuesday with a visit to the British Museum. There they will view final proposals for a national memorial to the late queen.
Princess Anne will formally open the Queen Elizabeth II Garden in Regent’s Park. In the evening, Charles and Camilla will host a reception for charities and centenarians.
Public sentiment and documentary tributes
A recent YouGov poll found that 81% of respondents hold a positive view of the late queen. That level of approval tops living royals in the survey.
Queen Camilla praised Elizabeth’s dedication in a BBC documentary broadcast over the weekend. She noted the monarch’s strong sense of duty and the challenges of ascending the throne at 25.
New trust for community spaces
The government has backed a new independent charity called the Queen Elizabeth Trust. It will focus on restoring and improving shared community spaces.
The trust launched with £40 million in initial funding. The king will serve as its patron.
These activities form part of British Royals Honor Late Queen’s 100th Birthday commemorations. Elizabeth was born on April 21, 1926, and reigned for 70 years.
