‘The James Hunt Years’ Celebrated at 83rd Members’ Meeting

The Motor Circuit came alive with a carefully chosen selection of cars tracing James Hunt’s Formula 1 career from 1973 to 1979. The highlight was the McLaren M23 in which he clinched the 1976 title at the Japanese Grand Prix.

Historic machines on display

The paddocks featured iconic machines from Hunt’s era. The lineup included the Ferrari 312T, a Brabham BT21 and the Hesketh 308C.

  • McLaren M23 — title-winning car from the 1976 Japanese Grand Prix.
  • Hesketh 308C — representing Hunt’s early, free-spirited years.
  • Ferrari 312T — associated with rival Niki Lauda.
  • Brabham BT21 — part of the nostalgic display.

On-track tribute

Each car ran laps on the Motor Circuit. The sight and sound revived vivid memories of Hunt’s driving style.

The sequence captured his rise from Hesketh Racing to championship success at McLaren. Fans described the tribute as both authentic and electrifying.

Family and pageantry

Freddie Hunt closed the demonstration by waving the chequered flag. The gesture added a personal touch to the finale.

Organisers included theatrical elements. A James Hunt look-alike posed with a cigar. Champagne spraying completed the scene.
