NBA and NHL Futures Betting: Bettors Anticipate Major Paydays
Postseason play in both leagues has many long-shot wagers suddenly near the finish line. Several futures and multi-leg parlays placed months ago now hinge on NBA Finals and Stanley Cup outcomes. Filmogaz.com tracked the biggest tickets and their potential payouts.
High-stakes parlay on the brink
On Jan. 6, a Hard Rock Bet customer placed $200 on a four-leg futures parlay. The first leg settled within two weeks when Indiana beat Miami for the College Football Playoff national title. The third leg paid off on April 6 when Michigan defeated UConn to win the NCAA Tournament.
The second leg of that ticket calls for the Seattle Seahawks to win the Super Bowl over the New England Patriots. The lone remaining leg requires the Colorado Avalanche to capture the Stanley Cup. The combined odds were listed at roughly +76,445, about 764/1, and a Colorado title would convert $200 into $153,090.
Million-dollar long shot on Philadelphia
The 76ers beat the Magic 109-97 in a play-in game to earn the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference. That sets a first-round matchup with the Boston Celtics. Philadelphia entered as roughly a +800 underdog to win the series.
Undeterred, a Caesars Sports customer wagered $5,000 on the Sixers to win the NBA championship at +20,000 (200/1). If Philadelphia completes a title run, that stake would return $1 million.
Mixed-sport parlay edges closer
A FanDuel Sportsbook customer built an eclectic parlay in October. It combined three tennis selections, a Yankees-Red Sox game, and a New Mexico State–Sam Houston State football contest, all occurring on Oct. 2. The bettor then added two futures: Seahawks +3300 to win the Super Bowl and Stars +800 to win the Stanley Cup.
The full ticket carried about +293,916 odds, or roughly 2,939/1. The wager used a $50 bonus bet, effectively making it a free play. FanDuel listed Dallas at +1300 among Stanley Cup futures, and a Stars championship would yield approximately $146,958.46 on that ticket.
Big single-team wagers in the NBA
The San Antonio Spurs dramatically outperformed expectations this season. Their regular-season win total projection was 44.5, yet they finished 62-20. Only the Oklahoma City Thunder logged a better mark at 64-18. San Antonio earned the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference and sits as the No. 2 choice in futures markets.
BetMGM shows the Spurs at +450 as the second choice, with the Thunder favored at +120. A late BetMGM customer risked $50,000 on San Antonio at +650. A Spurs title would produce $325,000 in profit, a total payout of $350,000.
Motor City upside
Detroit finished the regular season 60-22 and secured the No. 1 seed. The Pistons are now priced at about +2000 to win the championship, behind Boston (+550) and Cleveland (+1600), and near Oklahoma City, San Antonio, and Denver (+1000).
One BetMGM bettor placed $25,000 on Detroit at +1400 earlier in the campaign. If the Pistons take the title, that wager would return $375,000, a $350,000 profit.
