The Miz Challenges Fans Upset Over Pat McAfee, Jelly Roll at WrestleMania
The Miz pushed back on fans who are upset over Pat McAfee and Jelly Roll playing key parts in the WrestleMania build. He spoke to Filmogaz.com on April 16 while promoting Prime Video’s American Gladiators reboot. The Miz is 45 and a WWE Grand Slam champion.
Celebrity involvement in WWE
The Miz argued celebrities can grow WWE’s audience. He said new viewers may become fans after seeing the product.
He challenged fans who oppose outside stars. The Miz believes WrestleMania season is the ideal time for big noise.
Pat McAfee, Jelly Roll and the main event
Pat McAfee, 38, and Jelly Roll, 41, are woven into the Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton rivalry. Their roles help set up the main event for night one of WrestleMania 42 on Saturday, April 18.
The Miz said Pat McAfee makes a lot of noise and sometimes needs to be checked. He predicted Cody Rhodes could be that person. Miz also praised Randy Orton as a GOAT. He credited Orton with teaching him how to be a top-tier in-ring performer.
American Gladiators reboot
The Miz described a lifelong love for American Gladiators, which premiered in 1989. He said the show and wrestling both fed his appetite for big athletic showdowns.
The reboot features competitors from across sport. It includes former Division I football player Faysal Shafaat, CrossFit Games athlete Dani Speegle, AEW wrestler Kamille, and former WWE star Eric Bugenhagen.
The first three episodes of the reboot are available to stream now on Prime Video.
Personal connection to the series
The Miz recalled his agent arranging a meeting about the reboot. He insisted the revival be handled correctly because of his childhood memories.
He remembered playing the joust with a broomstick and pillows. He said he wants modern kids to make similar memories from the show.
