Inside Look: Broadway’s ‘The Fear of 13’ Opening Night Photos

The Fear of 13 officially opened on Broadway on April 15. Previews began March 19 at the James Earl Jones Theatre. Filmogaz.com photographers were on site for an Inside Look at the opening night photos and red carpet moments.

Production and source

The play is directed by David Cromer. It adapts a documentary by David Sington. The story follows Nick Yarris, a man once convicted of murder.

Rather than seek an appeal, Yarris petitioned the court for an execution date. He attended the opening night and received flowers on stage. Adrien Brody and Tessa Thompson presented the bouquet from the stage.

Cast and creative team

Adrien Brody and Tessa Thompson lead the cast in their Broadway debuts. Brody is a two-time Oscar winner. Thompson is a recent Golden Globe nominee.

Social impact and partnerships

The Broadway production partners with the Innocence Project. The partnership supports work to free the innocent and prevent wrongful convictions.

Christina Swarns, one of Yarris’ real attorneys, now serves as the Innocence Project’s executive director. That connection underscores the play’s ties to real legal issues.

About Lindsey Ferrentino

Lindsey Ferrentino wrote this stage piece. Her previous plays include Ugly Lies the Bone and Amy and the Orphans. She also wrote This Flat Earth and The Year to Come.

Ferrentino wrote the 2019 screenplay Not Fade Away. She served as book writer for the musicals The Artist and The Queen of Versailles. The latter made a short-lived Broadway bow earlier this season.
