FBI Analyzes DNA in Nancy Guthrie Abduction Investigation, Sources Reveal

The FBI has begun advanced testing on a hair sample recovered from Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson residence. Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported abducted from her home on Feb. 1, 2026.

DNA evidence and testing

Sources familiar with the investigation told Filmogaz.com that the FBI analyzes DNA evidence from the scene. Sources reveal the bureau is using new laboratory technology to try to separate mixed genetic material.

Pima County officials previously described the recovered DNA as a mixture from more than one person. Investigators say the strands must be untangled before useful profiles emerge.

Sample transfer and timeline

Investigators collected a hair sample in February. A private Florida laboratory working with the Pima County Sheriff’s Office later sent the original hair to the FBI Laboratory.

An FBI official said the bureau requested the material more than two months ago. The private lab transferred the sample after about eleven weeks.

Case progress and resources

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos warned it could take up to six more months to isolate usable DNA strands. He also said as many as five other laboratories nationwide are assisting with testing.

About two dozen Pima County and FBI investigators remain assigned full time to the case. Early releases of doorbell camera footage produced leads, but authorities say the search for Guthrie’s whereabouts and a suspect continues.

Photos and releases

The FBI provided an image of Nancy Guthrie on Feb. 5, 2026. FBI Director Kash Patel released a surveillance photo of a potential subject on Feb. 10, 2026.

Family response

Savannah Guthrie has spoken publicly about the anguish her family is feeling. In a recent interview with Hoda Kotb, she expressed deep remorse and said the family cannot find peace without answers.
