Stellantis and Microsoft Forge Five-Year AI Partnership

Stellantis and Microsoft Forge Five-Year AI Partnership

Stellantis and Microsoft announced a five-year strategic alliance on April 16 in Milan. The collaboration will focus on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and engineering capabilities. The tie-up aims to speed the automaker’s software and data-driven services push.

Partnership scope and goals

The companies said joint teams will co-develop more than 100 AI initiatives. Projects will include product development and validation, predictive maintenance, and accelerated rollout of digital features. The arrangement builds on prior work between the two firms on connected vehicle platforms.

Security and operations

The agreement will expand a global cyber defence centre. AI-driven analytics will be applied to detect and prevent cyber threats. The centre will protect vehicles, customer data, manufacturing sites, IT systems, and digital products.

Cloud migration and efficiency targets

Stellantis will modernize its IT infrastructure on Microsoft’s Azure platform. The automaker targets a 60% reduction in its data centre footprint by 2029. No financial terms were disclosed for the deal.

Industry context

Legacy automakers increasingly partner with Big Tech to close software gaps. Chinese rivals have accelerated feature development, raising competitive pressure. Stellantis had earlier wound down an in-car software deal with Amazon.

Corporate comments

Stellantis’ chief engineering and technology officer said the collaboration will accelerate the group’s AI progress. The firms described the initiative as a strategic step to strengthen engineering and cybersecurity capabilities. Media briefings framed the pact as a move to deliver more personalized experiences for drivers.

Branding and naming

The collaboration has been referred to in some briefings as the Microsoft Forge Five-Year AI Partnership. That label underscores a focus on co-developed AI projects and cloud modernization. The partnership also continues both firms’ existing technology cooperation.
