Massive Attack Joins Play It Again Sam Label

Massive Attack has signed with Play It Again Sam, a label within the PIAS Label Group.

The band released a new single, Boots On The Ground, on April 16. The track is the group’s first new material in several years.

New single and film

Boots On The Ground arrived alongside an original film piece. The visual was directed by Massive Attack in collaboration with US photo artist Thefinaleye.

The song and film were uploaded across the band’s digital platforms the same day.

Notable contributors

The recording features Tom Waits, marking his first new studio appearance since his 2011 album Bad As Me. His son, Casey Waits, provides additional vocals.

Label partnership

Play It Again Sam described the agreement as a landmark partnership. The label was founded in 1982 and operates as part of the PIAS Label Group.

Kenny Gates, PIAS executive chairman, praised the band for their long-standing creativity and cultural influence. Russell Crank, Play It Again Sam’s director of A&R, said the label will fully back Rob Del Naja and Grant Marshall.

Environmental initiative

Massive Attack partnered with Good Neighbors for an EcoSonic vinyl pressing. The record uses 100% recycled PET and recyclable manufacturing.

Packaging uses 100% recycled paper stock and recycled polyethylene outer sleeves. The pressing employs energy-efficient injection moulding.

Release plan and live dates

Boots On The Ground is the first of several planned releases tied to upcoming live activity. The band will play a series of major festivals across summer 2026.

Additional releases and performances are scheduled to roll out through 2026.
