Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a special weather statement for Toronto, the GTA and southern Ontario. Forecasters expect 10 to 20 millimetres of rain through Thursday. The advisory was issued Wednesday.
Toronto and the GTA are bracing for a special weather alert as up to 20mm of rainfall is expected. Scattered thunderstorms with heavy downpours are forecast this afternoon and again Thursday morning.
Thursday afternoon will bring showers and possibly more thunderstorms. The agency warned the ground is near saturation and has limited capacity to absorb more rain.
Portions of the region saw significant totals over recent days. Additional rainfall could produce flooding and other impacts in vulnerable areas.
Pooling on roads and in low-lying areas is likely, officials say. Rainfall warnings may be issued for some regions.
