Tennessee Guard Bishop Boswell Joins Maryland Basketball under Buzz Williams
Tennessee guard Bishop Boswell announced his transfer to Maryland on April 15 via a shared Instagram post. He will join the Terrapins for the next two seasons.
Eligibility and coaching fit
Boswell will have two years of eligibility remaining under coach Buzz Williams. The move keeps him in the Big Ten conference.
College production and role at Tennessee
He earned a starting role early in his second season with Tennessee. Boswell appeared in 33 of 34 games as a sophomore.
He averaged 6.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. His shooting splits were 42.7 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from three.
A four-star recruit, Boswell was Tennessee’s top signing in the 2024 class. The Charlotte native ranked among the top 100 prospects nationally and was No. 8 in North Carolina in the 247Sports Composite.
As a freshman, he played sparingly. He averaged 3.8 minutes across 28 games.
Tournament and defensive impact
Boswell played a key role in Tennessee’s fourth straight Sweet 16 appearance. He scored 13 points and made a career-high four 3-pointers in the Vols’ 79-72 second-round win over Virginia.
Defensively, he often matched up on opponents’ top perimeter players. He formed an effective backcourt pairing with Ja’Kobi Gillespie, who led the SEC with 52 steals.
Roster movement and Tennessee’s response
Among Tennessee’s outgoing transfers, Boswell joins Michigan forward J.P. Estrella in the Big Ten. Missouri forward Jaylen Carey remained in the SEC.
Amari Evans, Clarence Massamba and Cade Phillips had not announced destinations. Tennessee’s roster has leaned toward more offense in response.
The Vols added shooting guard Tyler Lundblade from Belmont. They also signed combo guard Dai Dai Ames from Cal.
