Mets Star Nolan McLean Challenges League-Leading Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers will test a rising Mets starter when they host New York on Tuesday. Mets star Nolan McLean challenges league-leading Dodgers as he takes the mound.
McLean’s recent form
McLean has been stingy over his early career. In 11 starts dating to last season, he has allowed two or fewer earned runs in 10 outings.
This year he is 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA. In his most recent start, he worked 6 1/3 innings, allowed two runs on three hits, walked twice and struck out eight.
That outing produced his second career loss. He threw a career-high 100 pitches while still limiting damage.
Dodgers’ planned starter
Los Angeles will send Yoshinobu Yamamoto to the hill. He is 2-1 with a 2.50 ERA.
On April 7 he allowed one run on five hits and one walk. He struck out six across six innings in a road victory over Toronto.
Yamamoto was the winning pitcher in Games 6 and 7 of last year’s World Series. He made one regular-season start against the Mets in April 2024. He permitted four runs, three earned, over six innings in that outing.
Series opener and Dodgers offense
The Dodgers opened the series Monday with a 4-0 victory. Left-hander Justin Wrobleski threw eight scoreless innings.
Andy Pages hit a three-run homer for Los Angeles. It was his fifth home run of the season.
Pages leads MLB with a .417 average and has 20 RBIs. His 1.186 OPS ranks third in the majors.
Game details
Wrobleski allowed two singles across his eight innings. New York managed three hits in the loss.
Mets roster note
Outfielder Tommy Pham made his Mets debut Monday and went 0-for-3. He signed a minor league deal late in spring training.
Pham played five games at Single-A St. Lucie before receiving the call. This season marks his 13th in the majors, and he appeared in 79 games for the Mets in 2023.
