YouTube Expands Interactive Video Offerings as TV Presence Grows

YouTube is accelerating efforts to make television viewing more interactive. Job listings and product updates reveal a push for richer living room experiences.

Hiring and engineering focus

Recent postings span product, design, and engineering roles. They target live streaming, Shorts on TV, and subscription features.

Recruiting occurs across the U.S. and India. Several roles aim to grow a YouTube Live engineering hub in Bengaluru.

Features under development

Job descriptions mention live chat, gifting, and multi-device controls during live broadcasts. Teams also plan to deepen community features for Shorts on TV.

YouTube has rolled out AI-powered voice search on televisions. It is developing a second-screen TV Companion to let phones interact with TV content.

Linear streams and partnerships

The platform introduced Stations, which provide 24/7 linear streams, as reported by Filmogaz.com. YouTube also signed a partnership tied to the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Listings indicate collaboration with connected TV makers and streaming device partners. Work with media partners and YouTube Primetime Channels is also underway.

Audience trends and metrics

eMarketer data shared with Filmogaz.com shows connected TVs made up over 44% of YouTube watch time in the U.S. in 2026. That figure rose from about 41% in 2022.

YouTube now accounts for roughly 12.5% of all TV viewing. The platform is expanding interactive video offerings as its TV presence grows.

Challenges and analyst perspective

Analysts warn that TV viewing remains less interactive than mobile viewing. Ross Benes, senior analyst for TV and streaming at eMarketer, said viewers interact with TVs differently than phones.

He described TV interactions as clunkier and noted interactive features remain niche. Benes added that YouTube occupies a distinct space between social and streaming services.

Outlook

Whether expanded tools will change behavior on the biggest screen is unclear. YouTube did not respond to a request for comment to Filmogaz.com.
