Alcaraz Eyes Top Rank Reclaim at Barcelona Tennis Event

Carlos Alcaraz says the chance to quickly regain the world number one spot gives him added motivation. He emphasised steady improvement through the clay season remains his main priority.

Barcelona opportunity

He surrendered his Monte Carlo title and the top ranking after Sunday’s final in Monaco. Alcaraz aims to reclaim his top rank at the Barcelona tennis event. He opens his Barcelona campaign against Otto Virtanen on Tuesday.

Ranking implications

If he does not lift the trophy he will remain world number two. Alcaraz said the rivalry with Jannik Sinner adds motivation, but training and match work come first.

Clay season plan

He plans to play a full clay schedule. Madrid and Rome follow Barcelona ahead of his French Open title defence in Paris.

The Roland Garros defence starts on May 24.

Rivalry and improvement

Alcaraz, 22, said Sinner’s recent run helps him improve. Sinner won Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo before taking a break.

Alcaraz joked he will not miss Sinner this week.
