David Duchovny Addresses Potential Role in Ryan Coogler’s X-Files Reboot
Hulu’s new take on The X-Files is moving rapidly toward production. The pilot is expected to begin filming soon.
Ryan Coogler will write and direct the pilot. He is the Black Panther director and a recent Oscar winner.
Creator Chris Carter is not involved with this revival. Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel have been cast as the two leads.
Original cast status
Gillian Anderson has hinted at talks with Coogler about a return as Dana Scully. No official confirmation has followed.
David Duchovny recently spoke to Filmogaz.com about his potential role in the project. He said discussions have taken place but nothing is concrete.
Duchovny’s remarks and perspective
He confirmed he has not read the pilot script. Duchovny also said he has been in contact with Coogler.
The actor said he does not yet understand the show’s world. He noted uncertainty about whether Mulder would exist in this version.
Duchovny stressed the importance of the writers’ room. He cited original series talents such as Vince Gilligan, the Morgan brothers, and Howard Gordon.
Production team and next steps
Jennifer Yale will serve as showrunner while Coogler handles the pilot. The pair will assemble the series’ creative team.
Coogler recently won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Sinners. Yale’s television credits include Legion, Outlander, and Your Friends & Neighbors.
Duchovny urged strong writing to sustain the concept week to week. He suggested a shorter season of about 10 to 12 episodes would help maintain quality.
Deadwyler and Patel are the confirmed leads so far. Whether the X-Files reboot will include its original stars remains unknown.
