Kelvin Fletcher Shares Bittersweet Farm News Following Sudden Loss
Kelvin Fletcher has shared bittersweet farm news after a sudden loss on his Peak District farm. He and his wife Liz, with their four children, documented the year on their ITV series. The show follows life at their Cheshire farm.
Show update and airing details
Fletcher’s Family Farm returns for a fourth series this spring. The final episode airs on Sunday, April 12, 2026. The programme has become a regular on ITV and follows the family’s rural life closely.
Mixed fortunes on the farm
Farming brought both progress and heartbreak this winter. The family celebrated sending their first cattle for certified organic meat. That milestone was tempered by the sudden death of a cow named Cherry.
Cause and context of the loss
Cherry died from pneumonia, the family confirmed in the latest instalment. The passing was described as unexpected. Kelvin said it affected plans for the herd.
Ruby’s health and pregnancy news
Earlier in the series Ruby suffered a miscarriage. Veterinary team member Hugo performed a pregnancy scan later in the year. The scan revealed Ruby was about eleven weeks pregnant.
Ruby has produced two healthy calves this year. One was an award-winning bull calf named Ray. The other was their first female calf, Elizabeth, born in late summer.
Breeding details
The bull Crowther was used to try to get Ruby in calf. He was given several chances before being separated from her. The earlier miscarriage set the herd back by a few months.
Future herd plans
Kelvin said the pregnancy news was welcome but bittersweet due to Cherry’s death. He plans to seek another cow already in calf to rebuild numbers. The family wants to keep momentum after the organic meat milestone.
