White Sox Elevate Noah Schultz to Major League Roster
Chicago White Sox have officially promoted their top pitching prospect, Noah Schultz, to the major league roster. The talented left-hander is set to make his debut on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. This decision follows the team’s reassignment of Opening Day starter Shane Smith, who was sent down earlier in the week, creating a vacancy in the rotation.
Noah Schultz’s Impressive Minor League Performance
Schultz has showcased remarkable performance throughout his minor league career. In his first outing at Triple-A, he struck out hitters for four hitless innings. He continued to impress by allowing just one earned run over five innings in his subsequent starts. His dominant statistics include a striking 40.4% strikeout rate across 14 innings.
- First outing: 4 hitless innings
- Second outing: 1 earned run over 5 innings
- Strikeout rate: 40.4%
- Base runners allowed: 6
Rankings and Player Development
MLB Pipeline currently ranks Schultz as the second-best prospect in the White Sox farm system, trailing only outfielder Braden Montgomery. FanGraphs also recognized Schultz’s potential, placing him high among top prospects during the off-season. The White Sox drafted Schultz in the first round of the 2022 MLB Draft, and he quickly advanced through the minor leagues before turning 21.
Throughout his journey, Schultz has consistently excelled. In 2023, he recorded a stellar 1.33 ERA over 27 innings at Single-A and later pitched for 88 1/3 innings in 2024 with a commendable 2.24 ERA, registering a 32.1% strikeout rate.
Challenges and Future Outlook
The 2025 season posed challenges for Schultz, including a significant reduction in his strikeout rate to 23.2% and an increase in walks to 14.4%. He faced difficulty at Triple-A, where he yielded 17 earned runs in just over 16 innings. Various knee issues also hampered his performance in the latter half of the season; however, he has been cleared for the upcoming 2026 season.
Current White Sox Rotation and Expectations
Despite Smith’s struggles during his stint, the White Sox pitching rotation performed decently overall, holding a combined 3.99 ERA, ranking 14th in the league. Pitchers such as Davis Martin, Erick Fedde, Anthony Kay, and Sean Burke have all maintained sub-4.00 ERAs so far this season.
As Schultz joins the team, he adds depth to the starting rotation, complementing fellow lefty Anthony Kay. While Jonathan Cannon is expected to step in as well, Schultz’s arrival signifies the White Sox’s commitment to bolstering their pitching prospects for the 2026 season and beyond.
