Subaru Unveils Trailseeker EV Boasting 734-Kilometer Range
Subaru Corporation has officially begun accepting orders for its new electric vehicle, the Trailseeker, starting April 9. This marks a significant milestone for the automaker, as it is the first electric vehicle produced at its own facility.
Overview of the Trailseeker EV
The Trailseeker, developed in collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation, is Subaru’s second mass-produced EV aimed at the global market. Its initial EV was manufactured solely by Toyota.
Pricing and Subsidies
- Base price ranges from 5.39 million yen ($33,840) to 6.38 million yen.
- The Trailseeker qualifies for a 1.29-million-yen government rebate, lowering the starting price to approximately 4.1 million yen.
Performance and Features
This electric vehicle boasts an impressive maximum range of 734 kilometers on a single charge. It includes a battery-warming function, enhancing charging efficiency even in colder temperatures. This allows the vehicle to charge from 10% to 80% in around 28 minutes.
SUV Design and Cargo Capacity
Marketed as a “wagon-style sport utility vehicle (SUV),” the Trailseeker is designed for robust handling on various terrains, including snow-covered roads. The vehicle provides substantial cargo space, with a capacity of 633 liters, enough to accommodate four golf bags.
Production Facilities
The Trailseeker is manufactured at Subaru’s refurbished Gunma Yajima Plant in Ota, Gunma Prefecture. This plant now facilitates the mixed production of electric, gasoline, and hybrid vehicles. Additionally, it will produce Toyota’s bZ4X Touring EV, which shares the same platform as the Trailseeker.
