The xx Return to Stage After 8 Years with Mexico City Shows

The xx returned to the stage this past weekend with a three-night headline run at Mexico City’s Pepsi Centre WTC. It was their first full set of shows together since 2018.

Setlist highlights

The trio drew from all three studio albums: xx, Coexist and I See You. They opened each night with Crystalised.

Solo work and collaborations

The band included a medley of solo tracks during the sets. That section featured Oliver Sim’s GMT, Romy’s Enjoy Your Life, and Jamie xx’s Wanna and Waited All Night.

Two Jamie xx collaborations were played on all three nights. I’ll Take Care Of You, made with Gil-Scott Heron, and Loud Places, featuring Romy, were both aired each evening.

New material and live debuts

On the final night the group introduced a new song titled Silhouettes. It appeared at the set’s midpoint and was the only new piece performed.

The band also gave I See You album track Seasons Run its live debut that night. A new album is expected sometime this year.

Context and upcoming dates

These Mexico City shows marked The xx’s return to the stage after eight years away from full live runs. The performances came ahead of the band’s scheduled appearances at Coachella over the next two weekends.

Recent studio activity

Last year the trio confirmed they had been working in the studio on new music. In November they issued a deluxe edition of their debut album, featuring bonus tracks.
