Leverkusen Draws Season’s Largest Away Crowd at BVB Match
Bayer 04 Leverkusen travelled to Borussia Dortmund for a Bundesliga fixture on matchday 29. It was the club’s third trip to Dortmund as reigning German champions.
Attendance figures and away support
About 6,100 Leverkusen supporters made the trip to Dortmund. That number represents the season’s largest away crowd for the Werkself so far.
Earlier in the season, the DFB-Pokal meeting in December saw 7,100 travelling fans. In the two previous Dortmund visits across past seasons, about 8,500 Leverkusen fans attended each match.
Season averages and rankings
Leverkusen averages roughly 3,100 fans at away Bundesliga matches. That places the club tenth in the away-traveller standings.
The typical guest-block occupancy for Leverkusen is 78.5 percent, also good for tenth place in the league comparison.
Stadium situation in Dortmund
The Signal Iduna Park reported full capacity for the match. Official attendance reached 81,365 spectators, making the fixture completely sold out.
Organisers released the unused guest blocks to home supporters. This helped Dortmund maintain a run of sold-out Bundesliga home matches.
Exceptions in other competitions
The Borussia Dortmund Champions League game against Atalanta Bergamo did not sell out. That match left nearly 5,000 seats empty.
Context and fan impact
Leverkusen’s 2024 championship has boosted fan interest at both home and away games. Since the 2023/24 title season, the club’s Bundesliga home matches have consistently sold out.
Despite not filling the entire allocated away quota at Dortmund, the turnout highlighted the club’s stronger travelling support since their title win.
