Friends React as Electric Skateboarder Teen Critically Injured in Motorcycle Crash
A 14-year-old girl remains in critical condition after a collision with a motorcycle near Wellington Wednesday night. The crash occurred around 10 p.m. near 9396 Pinion Drive in Palm Beach County. Authorities say both youths involved are 14 years old.
Crash details
Investigators reported the girl was riding an electric skateboard eastbound. A 14-year-old boy was driving a Kawasaki motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the skateboard, sending the girl to the roadway.
PBSO said the girl suffered severe injuries. Those include two brain bleeds, pelvic bleeding, and a lacerated spleen. The boy sustained only minor injuries.
Response at the scene
Friends who were nearby immediately called 911. Several neighbors described the scene as chaotic. Firefighters, ambulances, and deputies blocked the road for hours.
PBSO told reporters the girl is expected to survive. The crash remains under investigation.
Eyewitness accounts
One friend said he heard a loud impact and found the teens on the ground. He said the injured girl was not responsive when he arrived. Other friends expressed shock and concern for her recovery.
Friends react with urgency and worry as relatives and neighbors gather. They hope for a full recovery and support the teen’s family.
Safety and regulation concerns
Officials noted neither teen wore protective gear at the time. That lack of equipment raises safety concerns around micromobility devices. Local advocates warn riders must know hazards and limitations.
Tony Barbanente, a West Palm Beach bike shop owner, urged proper protection. He said riders should learn the limits of scooters, e-bikes, skateboards, and motorcycles.
Policy context
County data show six fatal crashes in 2025 involving micromobility devices. Experts say device popularity may be outpacing safety awareness. Proposed legislation aims to address the gap.
Senate Bill 382 would impose new safety measures. It includes speed limits for e-bikes on sidewalks and would create a safety task force. The bill is awaiting the governor’s signature.
