Gainey Expands NC State Basketball Team with Five New Hires
NC State men’s basketball head coach Justin Gainey has announced significant additions to his coaching staff. On Friday, he unveiled five new hires, consisting of four assistant coaches and a director of operations.

Assistant Coaches’ Backgrounds
Alvin Brooks III joins NC State after two years as Associate Head Coach at Kentucky. In his lengthy coaching career, he has contributed to the success of Baylor, where the team recorded a 194-72 record. As a lead recruiter, he helped land a top-ranked recruiting class and guided the Bears to their first national championship in 2021.
Riley Collins arrives from the University of Tennessee, where he served as the assistant director of player development. During his time, the Volunteers consistently progressed in the NCAA Tournament, reaching the Sweet 16 and showcasing remarkable performances, including a 30-win season in 2024-2025.
Matthew Driscoll, previously at Kansas State, is recognized as the all-time winningest coach at North Florida, boasting a remarkable 274 career wins. His coaching pedigree includes multiple ASUN Coach of the Year accolades and three NCAA Tournament appearances.
Anthony Goins comes from the University of Georgia, where his leadership helped the team return to the NCAA Tournament after a lengthy absence. His previous roles include coaching stints at Boston College and Clemson, where he has been pivotal in player development and team improvement.
Director of Operations: Bill Comar
Bill Comar adds depth to the NC State staff with his extensive experience. He spent last season at Cincinnati and has a history of involvement with programs making significant postseason appearances. His diverse role includes collaborating with various departments to enhance team operations.
