Twins Place Royce Lewis on Injured List
The Minnesota Twins are poised to make critical roster adjustments ahead of their game at Rogers Centre. Manager Derek Shelton announced that third baseman Royce Lewis and reliever Cody Laweryson are being placed on the injured list.
Royce Lewis Injured
Royce Lewis is dealing with a left knee sprain. He sustained the injury during Thursday’s matchup against the Detroit Tigers. Following a swinging strike in his last at-bat, Lewis came up limping but managed to finish the game, hitting an infield single.
Today, he reported increased discomfort, prompting imaging that confirmed the sprain. This unfortunate incident marks the ninth time Lewis has found himself on the injured list within his four-year MLB career. He has faced multiple setbacks, including two ACL tears and left leg injuries.
- First Overall Pick: Royce Lewis
- Career Highlights: Over 100 games played for the first time
- Latest Performance: .222 batting average, eight walks, and four extra-base hits
Cody Laweryson’s Injury
Cody Laweryson is also heading to the injured list due to a right forearm strain. This season, the 27-year-old righty had a promising start, appearing in five games and recording three earned runs over 6.1 innings.
Laweryson has contributed with a save and a hold as part of a competitive Minnesota bullpen. His injury will leave a gap that the Twins need to fill promptly.
Potential Replacements
The Twins are set to announce their roster adjustments shortly. Potential call-ups from the 40-man roster include depth infielders Ryan Kreidler and Eric Wagaman. Kreidler is currently hitting better in Triple-A and also offers defensive versatility.
In terms of filling Laweryson’s bullpen spot, Zak Kent, who was optioned earlier in the week, appears to be the frontrunner unless the Twins choose to designate a player for assignment.
This situation highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the Twins in maintaining a healthy roster, especially as they navigate the early stages of the season.
