Artemis II mission details
Artemis II launched on April 1 at 6:35 p.m. ET. The liftoff occurred at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
The crew includes commander Reid Wiseman, mission specialists Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen, and pilot Victor Glover. Hansen represents the Canadian Space Agency.
The mission will cover roughly 685,000 miles during a planned 10-day lunar flyby. The crew began their historic flyby about 2:45 p.m. ET on April 6.
That day the mission broke the record for the farthest distance humans have traveled from Earth. It is the first crewed voyage around the moon in more than 50 years.
NASA says this flight is a key step toward returning humans to the lunar surface. The mission supports goals for a long-term presence on the moon.
