Sorana Cîrstea turned 36 on Tuesday and marked the day with a win in Linz. She advanced to the second round at the WTA 500 tournament in Austria.

The fifth seed is ranked 29th in the world. She defeated Austria’s Sinja Kraus, world No. 119, 6-3, 6-3 in the opening match.

Cristian halted by Korpatsch
Jaqueline Cristian was the tournament’s sixth seed. She lost to Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch, a qualifier, 6-4, 1-6, 4-6.
Korpatsch came through qualifying to reach the main draw. Cristian exited in the first round.
Ruse also moves on
Gabriela Ruse advanced on Monday after beating Katie Boulter 7-6, 7-6. Her next opponent will be Ukrainian Daiana Iastremska.
