Friday Fuel Savings Alert: GTHA Drivers Urged to Refuel
Drivers in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area are urged to take advantage of the temporary dip in gas prices this Friday and Saturday. Fuel costs are projected to decrease significantly, but experts caution that this trend may not last long.
Gas Price Decline This Weekend
According to gas price analyst Dan McTeague, gas prices will drop by 13 cents per litre to an average of 173.9 cents. Diesel prices are also set to decrease by 28 cents per litre, bringing the cost to 2.05 per litre. McTeague described this reduction as “unheard of.”
However, McTeague noted that gas prices are likely to remain stable on Saturday. Conversely, diesel might experience a slight increase of four cents per litre.
Impact of International Developments
The fluctuations in fuel prices are linked to ongoing international tensions, particularly related to the Iran war. Recent developments, including a two-week ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, temporarily reopened the Strait of Hormuz. This strait is one of the world’s busiest oil shipping routes.
Despite the optimistic gas price dip, Patrick de Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, warns that the situation remains uncertain. He indicated that while the immediate reduction is welcomed, it may not continue for long.
Key Points to Note
- Gas prices expected to drop 13 cents to 173.9 cents per litre.
- Diesel prices will fall by 28 cents to 2.05 per litre.
- Possible four-cent increase in diesel on Saturday.
- Current price shifts are influenced by the Iran war and its ceasefire impacts.
As the situation evolves, drivers in the GTHA are advised to refuel while prices are favorable. However, they should remain mindful of the potential for price increases in the near future.
