Sia Addresses $42K Monthly Child Support Deal Amid Divorce: ‘Forgiveness Is Divine’
Singer-songwriter Sia Furler, 50, recently discussed the challenges she faced during a tumultuous year marked by her divorce from Daniel Bernad. She shared her feelings on social media, expressing frustration over the public disclosure of her child custody settlement.
Sia’s Monthly Child Support Details
On April 3, 2025, both Sia and Bernad finalized an agreement in Los Angeles that made headlines. As per the settlement, Sia is required to pay Bernad $42,500 monthly in child support for their son, Somersault Wonder Bernad, who was born on March 27, 2024. The payments commenced on April 1, 2025.
Custody Arrangements
Sia has primary custody of their son, while both parents will share joint legal custody. The agreement includes detailed custody arrangements for major holidays and special occasions. Major holidays covered include:
- Mother’s Day
- Father’s Day
- Halloween
- Easter
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas
- Yom Kippur
- Passover
- Rosh Hashana
Additionally, if either parent is away from Somersault for over 72 hours, they must arrange FaceTime communication at an agreed time.
Financial Responsibilities
The custody agreement specifies that Sia is responsible for various expenses beyond monthly child support. These include:
- Private school tuition
- Agreed extracurricular fees
- Uninsured healthcare costs
- Health insurance for Somersault
- $350,000 toward Bernad’s attorney fees
Moreover, Sia is mandated to secure a life insurance policy worth $5 million with Somersault as the beneficiary.
Background of the Divorce
The couple married in 2022, but Sia filed for divorce in March 2025. Bernad sought sole legal and physical custody of Somersault in October 2025, alleging Sia’s struggles with substance use made her an unfit parent. Sia, however, claimed to have been sober for six months and participating in a recovery program at that time.
Legal Investigations and Allegations
In response to Bernad’s claims, Sia alleged that he faced an investigation for child pornography. Authorities, including the Los Angeles Police Department, investigated these allegations but closed the case due to insufficient evidence. A judge previously denied Bernad’s emergency request to alter the custody arrangement, citing a lack of evidence for immediate changes.
Sia’s experience emphasizes both the emotional and financial complexities often involved in high-profile divorces. She described the past year as horrific but educational, reinforcing her commitment to navigating difficulties while prioritizing family.
