Hamilton Joins Excelr8 for Most Competitive BTCC Drive Yet in 2026

Nicolas Hamilton has signed with reigning champions Excelr8 Motorsport for the 2026 British Touring Car Championship. The move pairs him with Tom Ingram and Tom Chilton at the Midlands-based team. Hamilton joins Excelr8, aiming for the most competitive BTCC drive yet in 2026.

Team and lineup

Excelr8 secured last season’s drivers’ crown with Tom Ingram and took the manufacturers’ title. The squad ran Hyundai i30 Fastback N cars to that success. Ingram will remain, with Chilton set to continue alongside Hamilton.

Hamilton will race under the Team VERTU banner in car number 28. Draper Tools remains a long-term partner for the team.

Driver background

Hamilton made his BTCC debut in 2015 and has amassed 160 race starts. He is 34 years old and still pursuing his first series victory.

His best result to date is sixth place and he is eligible for the Jack Sears Trophy in 2026. He competes in a specially modified car because of cerebral palsy. That makes him the only disabled driver to race in the BTCC since 1958.

Why the move matters

Hamilton has said funding constrained his options earlier in his career. He credits new 2026 partners and Draper Tools for allowing a step up to more competitive machinery.

He recently tested at Snetterton and will race a Hyundai for the first time. He has focused on strength and fitness work over the winter.

Goals and team reaction

Team owner Justina Williams welcomed Hamilton to the roster and praised his determination. She said the team will supply the support needed to target podium finishes.

Hamilton described joining Team VERTU and Excelr8 as a proud moment. He vowed to give his all and highlighted the winter training he undertook to improve fitness and manage his disability.

Season calendar

The 2026 BTCC season opens at Donington Park on 18-19 April. The championship spans ten race weekends and closes at Brands Hatch on 10-11 October.
