Vaughan pointed to the tricky balance of backing a young captain while adding an experienced leader. Doull agreed and said Gaikwad could feel threatened by Samson’s presence.

They also described the trade as significant, noting it involved exchanging multiple high-quality players for one. That, they said, increases expectations on Samson at CSK.

Form concerns for Samson

Samson has struggled at the start of his CSK tenure. He registered single-digit scores in his first two innings for the franchise.

Doull urged Samson to draw on his recent T20 World Cup form. He suggested reclaiming that confidence will help Samson settle into the yellow jersey.
