Cockermouth Road Remains Closed Until Post-Easter
Lorton Street in Cockermouth will remain closed until 11 April 2026. Cumberland Council says engineering difficulties with the new road surface have forced the extension.

The closure affects the B5292 while work continues. DSD Construction Limited is carrying out the project on the council’s behalf.
Work is scheduled to resume on Tuesday, April 7. The council says the shutdown will continue through the Easter bank holiday weekend.

Access and local arrangements
No access will be available to Lorton Street via Station Road during the closure. Alternative routes are in place for affected properties.
- Residents, Mitchells Auction and the Methodist church will have access via Kirkgate and down Victoria Road.
- Emergency services will also use Kirkgate and Victoria Road during the bank holiday weekend.
- Traffic marshals will be on site to direct drivers when work restarts on April 7.
