Cherry Blossoms Peak as Clear Skies Turn to Rain: Watch for Gusts
On Sunday, April 5, the country was mostly cloudy with rain expected to develop in the afternoon. Temperatures through the day stayed mild, then dropped as showers moved in after evening.
Walkers were observed along Bulgwangcheon in Eunpyeong-gu, enjoying spring scenery. Cherry blossoms drew local interest, possibly near peak bloom in some spots.

Precipitation
Rain totals vary by region. Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi were forecast to receive 5–20 mm.
West Sea islands were set for 5–10 mm. Gangwon inland and mountain areas faced 5–20 mm. Gangwon east coast expected less than 5 mm.
Daejeon, Sejong, Chungnam and Chungbuk were also likely to see 5–20 mm. Precipitation was expected to ease by the afternoon of April 6.
Wind and marine hazards
Strong gusts and isolated thunder were possible over the West Sea. Mariners were urged to take precautions.
Nearshore wave heights were forecast at 0.5–2.0 m in the East and South, and 0.5–1.0 m in the West. Offshore waves could reach 0.5–2.0 m in the East and West, and 0.5–2.5 m in the South.
Coastal areas should monitor conditions closely and watch for gusts when venturing outdoors or at sea.
Air quality
Overall fine dust levels were expected to be moderate nationwide. Several areas faced worse conditions in the morning.
- Morning ‘bad’ levels predicted for Seoul and northern Gyeonggi.
- Southern Gyeonggi, Gangwon Yeongseo, Chungcheong, Gwangju and Jeonbuk also saw temporary deterioration.
