Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres Joins Cole Palmer, Kylian Mbappe in Business Venture
Viktor Gyokeres scored an 88th-minute winner to send Sweden into the World Cup via the play-offs. The Arsenal forward had also netted a hat-trick against Ukraine during the recent international window.
Late heroics in Stockholm
A goalmouth scramble saw the ball rebound off the post and land at Gyokeres’ feet. He finished emphatically, prompting wild celebrations in Stockholm.
Hundreds of fans copied his mask-like celebration after the final whistle. Graham Potter’s Sweden will join Japan, the Netherlands and Tunisia in World Cup Group F.
Signature celebration and its origins
Gyokeres marks goals by shaping a mask-like figure with his hands. He used the gesture four times during the international window.
Two years ago he posted an Instagram clip captioned, “Nobody cared until I put on the mask.” The line references Bane, the villain played by Tom Hardy in The Dark Knight Rises.
Trademark filed and approved
Gyokeres and his representatives submitted papers to the EUIPO at the start of last year. Swedish outlet Expressen revealed the filing to the European Union Intellectual Property Office.
The registration was approved in mid-September, shortly after his reported £64million move to Arsenal.
Commercial trend among forwards
Gyokeres joins a growing group of players protecting goal celebrations commercially. Chelsea’s Cole Palmer secured a trademark in November 2025 for his arm-rubbing celebration and the nickname “Cold Palmer”.
Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe trademarked his own celebration in 2024. Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres Joins Cole Palmer, Kylian Mbappe in Business Venture.
Back to club duties
Gyokeres will now refocus on Arsenal’s domestic and European objectives. The Gunners face Southampton in an FA Cup quarter-final this Saturday.
They then travel to Sporting Lisbon, his former club, in the Champions League. A Premier League match at home to Bournemouth follows next Saturday.
