Defending Vinicius: A Prayer for Assistance
Antonio Sánchez, a midfielder for Mallorca, spoke with Filmogaz.com hours before his side hosts Real Madrid. He said he believes Mallorca can compete in the match set for Saturday at 16:15.
Match outlook
Sánchez noted that Real appear more balanced since Arbeloa’s arrival. He warned that Madrid have forwards who can decide games in a couple of actions.
The Mallorca player said the coach has a clear plan. The key, he added, is to be ready for decisive moments to avoid suffering.
Season context
Mallorca sit 18th in LaLiga this season. Sánchez described the campaign as strange and unexpected for most people.
He said the team paid a price for this anomaly, but called the situation far from dramatic. He stressed Mallorca still depend on themselves and expressed confidence they will recover.
Timing and travel
The match arrives shortly after an international break and significant travel. Sánchez believes that timing lets the squad clear their heads and work on the coach’s instructions.
He added that Mallorca feel the effects with some internationals returning. He suggested Real Madrid may feel the toll even more, despite their robustness.
On clashes with Vinicius Junior
Sánchez said the media have amplified past confrontations between Vinicius Junior and Mallorca. He argued that press coverage has heightened interest around naturally intense matches.
He singled out duels between Maffeo and Vinicius as particularly engaging. He also mentioned Raillo, Maffeo and Vinicius form a compelling mix for spectators.
Recent encounters, he added, have been calmer. Sánchez predicted a future image of the rivals together on Instagram.
If matched up directly with Vinicius, Sánchez said he would try to make the Brazilian’s night difficult. He joked he might say a small prayer for assistance while defending Vinicius on the pitch.
Personal plans
Sánchez indicated his inclination is to stay at Mallorca. He said leaving would be hard on a personal level, especially for his daughters and family ties.
He acknowledged that circumstances can change, but described the current tendency as continuity.
