Bodycam Footage Captures Tiger Woods’ Sobriety Test and Arrest Inquiry
Tiger Woods was handcuffed last week after deputies administered a series of field sobriety exercises in Martin County, Florida. He registered “triple-zeroes” on a breathalyzer device before the additional testing.
Authorities said they ordered the exercises after noting his slow, lethargic movements and other signs of impairment. Bodycam Footage Captures Tiger Woods’ Sobriety Test and Arrest Inquiry, showing deputies guiding the tests and recording the encounter.
Field sobriety evaluation
Officers modified the tests because of Woods’ prior injuries. Deputies asked him to perform the exercises while seated.
- Track a finger with the eyes. He struggled with the movement.
- Touch the tip of the nose with a fingertip. He was instructed to alternate hands.
- Alternate palm and back of the other hand while counting. He had trouble keeping pace.
- Bring fists together, clap, and continue counting. This was the final exercise.
After the four tasks, a deputy told Woods to turn and place his hands behind his back. He was then placed in handcuffs.
Medical history and testing accommodations
Woods informed officers that he had seven back surgeries. He also said he had undergone more than 20 operations on his leg.
He noted a fused ankle and a persistent limp from a 2021 crash that caused serious leg injuries. He told deputies, “I take a few” prescription medications.
Arrest, response and next steps
When deputies handcuffed him, Woods asked, “I’m getting arrested?” The deputy replied, “Yes sir.”
The incident marked his second DUI arrest. The first occurred in 2017.
Court records indicate a judge has granted permission for Woods to seek treatment abroad. Woods issued a statement saying he will step away from golf to pursue treatment and focus on his health.
