Severe Storms Set to Hit NWA, River Valley Overnight, officials say.
Timing and evolution
By about 9 p.m., models show storms developing to the west and moving east. Northwest Arkansas should see the line first, followed by the River Valley. Odds increase after 8 to 9 p.m. and climb closer to midnight.
Most areas will likely be experiencing showers and thunderstorms by 1 to 2 a.m. The line may produce gusty winds as it moves through.
Primary hazards
- Strong straight-line winds with possible damage.
- Isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.
- Small hail in some storms.
- Flash flooding potential, especially in the River Valley.
Overnight into morning
Rain should increase overnight and be heaviest across the River Valley. Scattered storms may persist into the early morning hours, through about 6 or 7 a.m.
Northwest Arkansas is expected to clear earlier than the valley. Clearing in NWA should begin around 7 to 8 a.m.
Rain could linger near Fort Smith and Van Buren into midday. Showers might persist southeast of Fort Smith through noon or early afternoon.
Weekend forecast
Saturday will be cooler and a bit muddy after the rain. The precipitation will help drought conditions but likely will not end them.
Cooler air arrives Saturday evening. Easter Sunday morning will be chilly, with lows in the upper 30s across northwest Arkansas and the low 40s in the River Valley.
Sunday afternoon should be pleasant. Expect sunshine and highs in the low to mid 60s.
