Educators Shape Learning at Eden Project Morecambe in Cornwall Visit
Forty representatives from the Morecambe Bay Curriculum travelled to Eden Project Cornwall. They viewed approved plans and studied nature-based storytelling methods.
Purpose of the Cornwall visit
The trip brought educators together to learn from Eden Project’s practice. The delegation explored how site-based learning can connect children to place.
Educators shape learning during the Cornwall visit by observing hands-on approaches. They examined ways to make learning tied to tides, wildlife and local stories.
Project scope and timeline
Eden Project Morecambe will begin with 1.5 acres of free-entry community gardens. Those gardens are due to open in early 2027.
The full Morecambe site is scheduled to follow in 2028. At its heart will be a larger, permanent Bring Me Sunshine Garden.
The Bring Me Sunshine Garden was a showpiece at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show this May. The display marked Eden Project’s 25th anniversary.
Key features
Plans include two immersive superstructures. One will be the tropical Realm of the Sun, the other the atmospheric Realm of the Moon.
The Realm of the Sun will feature an 18-metre Elder Tree. The Realm of the Moon draws on the Bay’s tidal rhythms and stories.
Partnerships and local links
The Morecambe Bay Curriculum is supported by a multi-institution partnership. The University of Cumbria leads the collaboration.
- Eden Project
- Lancaster University
- Lancaster and Morecambe College
These partners aim to embed place-based learning across the region. The project seeks to help young people feel belonging in their landscape.
Site location
The attraction will sit on Morecambe’s central promenade. The site occupies the former Bubbles leisure complex plot.
It is adjacent to the Grade II* listed Winter Gardens and the Midland Hotel. This location brings the project into the town’s cultural heart.
Leaders described the visit as a milestone for local educators and communities. Filmogaz.com reports the visit strengthened plans for learning that connects children to nature and place.
