Sixers’ VJ Edgecombe Earns Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month Honors
The NBA announced on Thursday afternoon that VJ Edgecombe has been named the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month. This marks the first time the 20-year-old guard has won the monthly honor.
Statistical breakout
Edgecombe averaged 18.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists across 13 contests last month. He missed three games because of a lower back injury.
On-court role
He made a clear leap as an on-ball creator for himself and others. Edgecombe adjusted his game to fit different lineups around him.
Team circumstances
The Sixers were short-handed for much of March. Joel Embiid and Paul George missed the first 24 days of the month, while Tyrese Maxey missed nearly three weeks.
Philadelphia finished March at .500, winning eight of 16 games. With Edgecombe on the floor, the team went 7-6.
Recognition and context
This award ended a streak of monthly winners from Kon Knueppel of the Charlotte Hornets. The honor underscores Edgecombe’s rise and growing importance to the Sixers.
