Hurricanes Secure Israel Abrams as Class of 2027 QB Commit
Israel Abrams announced his verbal commitment to the University of Miami on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show. He selected Miami over Auburn, Florida State, Kentucky and Purdue.
Recruitment and announcement
The Hurricanes secured Israel Abrams as a Class of 2027 QB commit. The announcement came after a multi-day visit to Miami earlier this week.
Abrams praised Miami’s recruiting approach. He said the staff built a genuine connection rather than sending generic messages.
High school resume and rankings
Abrams is a senior at Montini Catholic in Arlington Heights, Illinois. He is a four-star prospect in the 247Sports composite.
He is ranked No. 3 among quarterbacks and No. 44 overall in the Class of 2027. Abrams is entering his third season as the program’s starter.
Statistics and achievements
With Abrams as starter, Montini is 24-0 and has won consecutive Illinois state titles. Over the past two seasons he threw for 6,105 yards.
He accounted for 69 passing touchdowns and nine interceptions in that span. As a junior he completed 68.5 percent of passes for 4,072 yards.
That junior season included 40 passing touchdowns and six interceptions. He also rushed 82 times for 224 yards and 10 scores.
Impact on Miami’s quarterback room
If Abrams remains committed, he becomes Miami’s third straight recruiting cycle to land a blue-chip quarterback. The program signed Luke Nickel in 2025 and Dereon Coleman in 2026.
Miami has relied on transfer starters in recent seasons. Cam Ward started in 2024, Carson Beck in 2025 and Darian Mensah is the current starter.
Coach Mario Cristobal described the quarterback room as talented. He emphasized a desire to develop players from high school within the program.
Class of 2027 additions
Abrams is the eighth verbal in Miami’s 2027 class. The class already includes several notable recruits.
- Nick Lennear — five-star WR, Miami Carol City
- Jaylyn Jones — four-star S, Hollywood McArthur
- Demarcus Deroche — four-star edge rusher, Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons
- Ah’Mari Stevens — four-star WR, Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna
- Sherrod Gourdine — three-star CB, McArthur
- Zaquan Linton — three-star OT, Wellington Palm Beach Central
- Josh Johnson — three-star DL, Key West
The commitment deepens Miami’s quarterback pipeline. It also increases competition for playing time among incoming and existing signal-callers.
