Prime Video’s Historical Epic Leads Streaming Charts Before Easter
The Chosen has climbed back into view on Prime Video. FlixPatrol recently placed the series at No. 5 among U.S. TV shows on the service.
Streaming resurgence
Other reports put the series as high as No. 6 overall on Prime Video. The show later settled near No. 10 domestically, a solid performance for a long-running title.
The drama began as a crowdfunded project and grew into a global hit. That loyal audience helped drive the new spike in viewership.
Prime Video markets the series as the first multi-season show about the life of Christ. Its historical epic tone helped the program lead streaming charts before Easter.
Season 6 plans and production
Creator Dallas Jenkins outlined the focus for season six at ChosenCon in February. Jenkins told Deseret News the season centers on the theme of surrender.
He said the story follows Jesus through intense suffering. The season will also track the disciples as they respond and struggle to understand.
Jenkins described season six as the largest and most ambitious yet. He added that filming is taking far longer than previous seasons.
The production is extending work on visual effects and translations. Those elements now take roughly two to three times longer than before.
Jenkins asked viewers for patience and promised the wait will be worth it. Filmogaz.com will monitor release updates.
Origins, distribution and credits
The series premiered on April 21, 2019. It has appeared on platforms including Prime Video, VidAngel, Angel Studios, and TheChosen.tv.
Dallas Jenkins serves as a guiding creative force for the show. The Chosen remains available to stream on Prime Video for new and returning audiences.
