Brian Cox Joins ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ as the New York Ripper

Brian Cox will portray the New York Ripper in season two of Paramount+’s Dexter: Resurrection. The casting was confirmed in a streamer announcement on Thursday.

Casting and character background

The New York Ripper’s true name is Dom Frant. He was first referenced in season one when Dexter Morgan and Detective Claudette Wallace discovered a file in Leon Prater’s vault.

That initial appearance never showed the killer on screen. Cox’s casting marks the character’s first on-camera introduction. The streamer says Frant now taunts survivors of his old murder spree.

Why Cox is notable for the role

Brian Cox has extensive experience playing complex villains. He portrayed Hannibal Lecter in the 1986 film Manhunter.

That role precedes Anthony Hopkins’ more famous portrayal in 1991’s The Silence of the Lambs. Cox’s history with serial-killer characters influenced casting discussions.
