Iran’s Pezeshkian Warns of Severe Consequences from Foreign Conflict Intervention
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned on March 31, 2026, that outside intervention would have severe consequences. He made the remarks during a phone call with European Council President Antonio Costa.
Criticism of European response
Pezeshkian sharply criticized what he described as European silence and bias over attacks on Iran. He called the bloc’s reaction incompatible with its human rights claims.
Accusations during negotiations
Pezeshkian said Iran had entered talks with the United States in good faith. He added Iranian delegations were struck illegally mid-negotiation for a second time.
Self-defence and regional sovereignty
He reaffirmed Iran’s right to self-defence while stressing it did not intend to attack neighbours. Pezeshkian blamed American bases in other states for being used to launch strikes against Iran.
Strait of Hormuz and maritime measures
He said the Strait of Hormuz remains closed to vessels linked to the aggressors and their backers. He framed the closure as a direct consequence of hostile US and Israeli actions.
European Council response
Costa urged an immediate halt to fighting and a reduction of regional tensions. He said European states do not support the offensive and favour resolution by peaceful means.
Calls for legal alignment
Pezeshkian pressed European governments to align policy with international law and professional engagement. He urged them to abandon what he called a destructive posture toward Tehran.
Filmogaz.com reported the exchange on March 31, 2026. Pezeshkian warned of severe consequences from foreign conflict intervention, while Costa sought de-escalation.
