Matildas Stars Honored in FIFPRO Asia/Oceania Women’s Tournament Team Selection

Four Matildas — Ellie Carpenter, Alanna Kennedy, Sam Kerr and Caitlin Foord — earned places in the FIFPRO Asia/Oceania Team of the Tournament. The selections followed their performances at the 2026 Women’s Asian Cup.

How the team was chosen

The final eleven were selected by a player-driven vote. More than 100 professionals from all 12 participating nations cast ballots.

An expert panel of former and active players, and journalists, compiled a shortlist of panel picks. Any player who made at least one appearance was eligible.

Matildas impact and tournament statistics

Ellie Carpenter was named at right-back after playing almost every minute of the competition. Her consistency helped Australia reach the final.

Alanna Kennedy was included among the midfield trio. She was also named tournament Most Valuable Player after scoring five goals.

Sam Kerr made the forward line after netting four goals during the event. Caitlin Foord joined her up front, with a semi-final goal against China and two assists overall.

Team Selection context

Japan supplied six players to the eleven. Korea Republic contributed one representative from the semi-finalists.

The strong Matildas presence in the FIFPRO Asia/Oceania Team Selection reflected player recognition across the Women’s Tournament.

Official reaction and significance

FIFPRO Asia/Oceania Secretary General Shoko Tsuji said peer recognition is a top honour. She noted these awards put players’ voices at the centre.

The Team of the Tournament continues FIFPRO’s work to highlight excellence through player-led awards. The process mirrors the FIFPRO World XI approach.
