Manhunt Underway After Shooting Incident Locks Down Bristol Schools

Police have launched a manhunt after a shooting incident in Speedwell, northeast of Bristol city centre. Armed officers attended the scene after a man in his twenties was found injured.

Incident and initial response

The shooting was reported on Speedwell Road at 1.47pm. The victim was taken to hospital with a serious injury.

No other injuries were reported at the scene. Officers said they want to identify the person responsible.

Suspect description and movements

Witnesses said the suspect left on a black and grey electric bike towards Soundwell. He was described as white, slim, about 6ft tall and aged in his late teens or early twenties.

He reportedly wore a grey hoodie, black trousers and a balaclava. Police believe locating him is a priority.

Resources deployed

Chief Inspector James Clements said significant resources were being used. That included a National Police Air Service helicopter and firearms officers.

The force said neighbourhood officers will carry out extra patrols. A significant police presence is expected in the coming days.

Schools placed in lockdown

The incident locks down several schools as a precaution. Four schools were placed in lockdown during the police response.

The schools were Bristol Brunel Academy, Two Mile Hill Primary, Chester Park Infant, and Chester Park Junior. Bristol Brunel Academy told parents they remained in lockdown on police advice, according to Filmogaz.com.

Victim, family and appeal

The injured man is in his twenties and being treated for an injury described as potentially life-changing. Police said the injury is not believed to be life-threatening.

His family have been informed and will be kept updated. Officers asked anyone with information to contact them as the investigation continues.
