Jon Hamm Revisits ‘Mad Men’: Calls It a “Pretty Good Show”

Jon Hamm has been watching Mad Men again since the series arrived on HBO Max. The actor told Andy Cohen on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live that this marks his first full sit-down with the show since it originally aired.

Hamm revisits the series

The Emmy-winning star said he is viewing the show alongside his wife, Anna Osceola. Osceola appeared briefly in the series finale as a small-role actress.

Hamm described the experience as pleasantly detached. He said the ten-plus year gap made the episodes feel fresh.

What he remembers

Hamm said he recalls nearly all of his own scenes. He added he often forgets plot points where he does not appear.

He summed up his reaction succinctly, calling it a “pretty good show.”

Where the rewatch stands

The couple is about two-thirds of the way through season two. They reached the episode “Six Months Leave.”

  • The episode includes the moment Freddy Rumsen urinates on himself.
  • Don and Betty are in a difficult place in their marriage.
  • Peggy’s career is rising.
  • Joan is engaged to be married.

Hamm noted he already knows the series’ conclusion but still finds the episodes exciting.

Streaming quality and home releases

HBO Max initially released a 4K transfer that had visible technical problems. Sources say the so-called “puke machine” color issues have been corrected.

A complete series Blu-ray box set is available for collectors through Amazon.
